Final and interim reports by UK public inquiries established to examine a range of national security, defence and human rights issues.
This collection brings together the final and interim reports of UK public inquiries related to national security and human rights issues from 1900 onwards. These inquiries have taken different forms over this period, and have been underpinned by different legislation or constitutional procedure. All can be understood as official bodies with distinct remits and powers, established by, but independent from, the UK government.
The inquiries covered in this collection span a wide range of issues, including arms sales (for example, the Scott (Arms to Iraq) Inquiry; the Legg (Arms to Sierra Leone) Inquiry), torture and detainee abuse (the Gage (Baha Mousa) Inquiry; the Gibson (Detainee) Inquiry), and unlawful killings (the Owen (Litvinenko) Inquiry; the Saville (Bloody Sunday) Inquiry).
